Understanding Kenya's healthcare economy.

This project analyzes Kenya's healthcare economy through expenditure, institutional capacity, and social health insurance indicators.

The analysis uses official statistics from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics Economic Survey and transforms them into an executive reporting workbook.

Multiple dimensions of healthcare performance.

Healthcare Expenditure

Examined national and county-level health budget allocations alongside GDP-related health expenditure.

02

SHA / SHIF

Tracked insurance fund utilization and premium collection patterns.

03

Facility Capacity

Analyzed the distribution and capacity of more than 16,000 healthcare facilities.

04

Data Storytelling

Used dual-axis and logarithmic visualizations to communicate complex patterns clearly.

Selected analytical visualizations.

What the analysis revealed.

01

SHIF Deficit

The analysis identified a 158.6% deficit anomaly in the Social Health Insurance Fund category, where benefits utilization substantially exceeded premium collections.

02

Facility Scale

More than 16,000 facilities were analyzed, requiring logarithmic scaling to make differences across facility levels visually interpretable.

Capacity Shift

The analysis highlighted a significant shift in private-sector hospital bed capacity relative to public-sector capacity.
